About the lorem ipsum generator

How much text should a mockup contain?

Designs break at the extremes, not in the middle. A card that looks perfect with a four-word title falls apart with a fourteen-word one, and a testimonial block designed for three lines looks empty with one.

Generate several lengths deliberately — the shortest plausible, the typical, and something 50% longer than anyone expects — and check the layout against all three. That is where a placeholder generator earns its keep.

When to abandon Lorem Ipsum

Latin filler is fine for grid and spacing work. It is actively misleading for anything involving reading order, comprehension or trust, because it removes the very thing users respond to.

It is also wrong for non-Latin scripts. If your product will ship in Arabic, Hindi or Japanese, mock it up in those scripts: line heights, character widths and text direction all differ enough to invalidate a Latin-only design.

Where does Lorem Ipsum come from?
It is scrambled Latin derived from Cicero's 'De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum', written in 45 BC. Typesetters have used it as filler since at least the 1500s, and it survived into digital design because it has the letter distribution of real prose without being readable.
Why not use real content instead?
For layout work, unreadable text is a feature — it stops stakeholders reviewing the copy when you asked about the grid. For usability testing and anything shown to a client as near-final, realistic content is far better, because Lorem Ipsum hides problems that real headlines and names would expose.
Does placeholder text hurt SEO if it ships?
Yes, badly. A live page of Lorem Ipsum is thin, duplicate content that appears on thousands of sites. Search for 'lorem ipsum' on any staging domain before launch — it escapes into production more often than anyone admits.
